THE SUPER HERO JUG (2000) Defender of Tea Pots Across The Universe The inspiration for this sculpture came while sketching designs for a water jug. He was initially carved out of a solid block of clay with the arms and snoot coiled on later. Once being left to dry naturally it survived the biscuit kiln firing. Meanwhile a wide range of surface designs were narrowed down and combined, eventually deciding on a fun suit design, which combined a T-shirt with an armour plated outfit, complete with super-hero-style gloves and boots. The gas firing and post reduction in the saw dust, together with the unique DM-Millenium glaze used resulted in a stunningly varied glaze finish: In places very textural with metallic reds and browns, whilst other areas flow into beautiful, smooth blends of yellows, greens and blues. |
